New Mexico Rail Runner Express Adds Extra
Saturday Train
High demand results in more
commuter rail service to Santa Fe on Saturdays
(Albuquerque,
NM – February 26, 2009)-
Beginning this Saturday, the New Mexico Rail Runner Express will
have one more train on the tracks between Belen and Santa Fe on Saturdays. The
extra train was added in response to overwhelming ridership since
Saturday service was implemented back in January.
(Please see
the schedule).
“We’ve been monitoring ridership in the last month
since we started Saturday service, and many times we’ve still got
“standing room only”, says Lawrence Rael, Executive Director of the Mid-Region
Council of Governments. “Our Saturday service has been a great
success, and people are really enjoying being able to hop on the
train to Santa Fe. Now they’ll have more options to do
so.”
The added train will depart the City of
Belen at 9:00 in the morning, with a stop in Downtown
Albuquerque at 9:50, and arrival in
Santa Fe
11:15 a.m.
Heading back south from
Santa Fe, the extra train will depart the
Santa Fe Depot Station at 11:30 a.m., stopping at Downtown
Albuquerque at 1:00 in the afternoon and finishing the route at 1:40
p.m. in Belen.
“This project has been a dramatic success for the state says
Secretary Designate Gary Girón. “Adding additional service to
accommodate the demand is indicative of how important this is to our
overall transportation program.”
