Emergency Preparedness Training at Domingo
Siding
First Full Scale Emergency
Exercise on Tribal Land
(Domingo,
NM – August 4,
2009) - This Sunday,
emergency responders from Santo Domingo Pueblo, the New Mexico State
Police, and throughout
Sandoval County will get an opportunity to respond
to a “Real Time” emergency aboard the New Mexico Rail Runner
Express. A full scale emergency preparedness exercise has been set
up to allow members from pueblo and area law enforcement, fire, and
rescue agencies to test their skills in the event of a true railway
disaster.
“This training in Domingo is critical”, says
Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of
Governments. “Responders will learn everything from how to deal with
multiple injuries to evacuating passengers through train windows.
It’s very useful especially when you consider the fact that much of
the northern territory the Rail Runner travels through each day is
tribal land between the Town of Bernalillo and Santa Fe.”
About 40 – 60 responders
from various agencies are attending the training, which culminates
with Sunday’s mock emergency drill. Many of the responders have
spent the prior week in classroom instruction leading up to the
hands-on drill. There will also be about 75-train “volunteer
victims” involved in the simulated event provided by local Cub Scout
and Boy Scout troops.
