El Pueblo Road Construction near Los Ranchos Station
Passengers Urged to Give Themselves Extra Time
(Albuquerque,
NM
– March 30, 2011)-
Beginning Monday, April 4th, Rail
Runner passengers who use the Los Ranchos/Journal Center station may
want to allow themselves some extra time in getting to that station.
Construction crews will begin widening the asphalt shoulders on both
sides of El Pueblo for bike lanes.
“We have a lot of people who bring bicycles on the
train, so this construction will make it safer and more convenient
for those who ride their bikes to the Los Ranchos/Journal Center
Station”, says Dewey Cave,
Executive Director of the Mid-Region Council of Governments.
“Meanwhile, we want to make sure that motorists who drive to this
station are aware of the construction, and give themselves some
extra time to arrive and park at the station.”
In addition to widening the asphalt shoulders to four feet,
crews will also be making improvements to the existing pavement in
this roadway stretch, which has deteriorated significantly over
time. This segment of El Pueblo includes the roadway between
2nd Street and Edith Boulevard.
Construction is planned to last for four-weeks. Two-way
traffic will be allowed on El Pueblo Road during this time, and
flagmen will be on hand to assist motorists.
