Labor Day Weekend Rail Runner service to Wine
Festival
The New Mexico Rail Runner Express offering special weekend
service to Wine Festival
(8-22-06) This year, visitors of the New Mexico Wine Festival will
have another alternative to get to the annual event. The New Mexico
Rail Runner Express will be offering special service over the Labor
Day weekend. People taking the train can catch a free shuttle bus from
the U.S. 550/Sandoval County station to the festival, or they can opt
to take a short walk to the annual event.

“This is one of New Mexico’s largest events, and the kind of thing
we are really happy to make the Rail Runner available for”, says
Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of
Governments. “The Wine Festival has been steadily growing in
popularity throughout the years, and we want to make sure that New
Mexicans have every opportunity to attend and enjoy the event”.
“Rail Runner will not only serve daily commuters, but it will be
utilized for special events to bolster local economic growth and
increase tourism,” Transportation Secretary Rhonda Faught said. “This
is a win-win situation that will greatly improve quality of life for
residents along the Middle Rio Grande Corridor.”
Now in its 19th year, the New Mexico Wine Festival attracts nearly
30,000 people. 19 wineries from across the state offer up free
tastings, as well as sales by the glass, bottle and case for
festival-goers. There’s also a variety of food vendors, live
entertainment, and a juried art show. Once again, the festival also
showcases some of New Mexico’s finest agriculture. There are even
activities for kids.
”The New Mexico Wine Festival is the premier wine event of the
Southwest”, says Maria Rinaldi, Executive Director, NM Wine Festival.
“More and more people come out to the festival each year, so the fact
that we can now offer Rail Runner service to get them here is a big
plus for this year’s event.”
“The Wine Festival is an important economic event to the Town of
Bernalillo”, says Bernalillo Mayor Patricia Chavez. “We’re delighted
the Rail Runner will be providing service”, added Mayor Chavez.
The 19th Annual New Mexico Wine Festival will be held in the Town
of Bernalillo over the Labor Day Weekend: Saturday, Sept 2nd, Sunday,
Sept 3rd, and Monday, Sept 4th.
