Rail Runner Introductory Fares
to start soon!
(10-17-06)- Beginning November 1st, the New
Mexico Rail Runner Express will offer riders a flat fare of $2.
Passengers will also have options for a daily round-trip ticket
and a monthly pass as well. These prices will be discounted for
students and senior citizens.

“Moving from just over three months of free
service to a flat rate makes it easier for commuters to
concentrate on other aspects of the service, like the train
schedule, and what connections they need to make once they
arrive at their destination”, says Lawrence Rael, Executive
Director for the Mid-Region Council of Governments. “While
people have really embraced the Rail Runner, we realize that it
is still a relatively new service, and we want to give riders
every opportunity to see how the train might be a good fit in
their daily lives – not to mention a very affordable
transportation alternative”.
NM Rail Runner Introductory Flat Fare Schedule –
November 1st – April 1st
One-way fare $2
Daily round trip $3
Monthly Pass $50
Discounts for Senior Citizens and Students and
People with disabilities
One-way fare $1
Daily round trip $1.50
Monthly Pass $25
Senior Citizens are those age 65 and over, while
student fares include those between ages 10-18 with a valid
student I.D. Children under the age of 10 will ride free during
the introductory period.
This discounted service will be offered through
the end of March 2007.
“This is a great bargain for people, especially
given the state of the cost of operating and maintaining a
vehicle”, says Secretary Rhonda Faught, NM Department of
Transportation. “A $3 day pass on the Rail Runner is not much
more than people are paying for a gallon of gas right now. It’s
encouraging that the Rail Runner can continue to provide
affordable and safe transportation for commuters.”
Passengers will be able to purchase tickets from
yellow-vested ticket agents on Rail Runner platforms or on the
trains. (See accompanying news release on Rail Runner
Ticket-purchasing options”)
Commuters who use the Rail Runner from Los Lunas
and Belen will still have an opportunity to ride free for three
months, once those stations are up and running.
