Friday, May 18 is National Bike
to Work Day.
(5-14-07) – On Friday May 18, 2007, NM Rail Runner Express,
City of Albuquerque and BikeABQ encourage commuters to put down the
car keys and try riding a bicycle to work. Bicycle commuters within
Albuquerque have long know that the city’s sunny weather and
extensive network of trails make Albuquerque ideal for bicycle
transportation. This year, alternative transportation in New Mexico
has reached a whole new level with the NM Rail Runner connecting
Bernalillo to Belen. Now commuters can use rail, bus and bicycle to
travel the entire central Rio Grande Corridor and surrounding
metropolitan areas.
On Bike to Work Day from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM, bicycle commuters can
enjoy a free breakfast from Einstein Bros Bagels at any of four
breakfast stops around town. In addition, reflective leg bands,
vests, t-shirts and reflective vests will be given away while
supplies last. A free drawing will be held for a Trek Cycle Cross
and other prizes. City and County planners will be available at the
breakfast stops to talk to cyclists about up-and-coming bicycle and
pedestrian projects.
