New Mexico Rail Runner Express offering
special weekend service to Balloon Fiesta
(09-21-06) This year, visitors of the
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta will have another
alternative to get to the colorful annual event. The New Mexico
Rail Runner Express will be offering special service for the
popular opening and closing weekends of Fiesta. People can catch
the train from either the U.S. 550/Sandoval County station in
Bernalillo or the Downtown Albuquerque station. The train will
drop them off at the Los Ranchos/Journal Center station, where
they can hop on a shuttle bus that will take them right onto
Balloon Fiesta field.
“People loved the ease of taking the Rail Runner to the Wine
Festival, and we think they’ll equally enjoy what the train has
to offer by helping them get to Balloon Fiesta this year”, says
Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of
Governments. “The Balloon Fiesta has grown steadily over the
years, and we’re hoping that by providing Rail Runner service,
people can avoid the hassle of parking, and also experience what
the Rail Runner can offer them in terms of easing the commute in
their everyday lives.”
Rail Runner service provided for the weekends of October 7th &
8th and October 14th & 15th
You must have a Park and Ride ticket prior to boarding the
train.
Park and Ride tickets can be purchased online at
www.balloonfiesta.com
or in person at Balloon Fiesta offices at 4401 Alameda Blvd. NE
They will not be available for purchase at Rail Runner stations.
