Valencia County
Emergency Personnel get firsthand look at Rail Runner
Rail Runner to host Equipment
Familiarization for Valencia County responders
(2-15-07) How would Valencia County emergency responders react to
a serious incident involving the New Mexico Rail Runner Express
commuter train? This Saturday, they will get a firsthand chance to
“get to know” the Rail Runner equipment in the event they should
find themselves in a real life emergency involving the train. An
equipment familiarization workshop has been set up to allow Valencia
County law enforcement members and other area emergency responders
to familiarize themselves with how to handle potential railway
disasters.
During this exercise, emergency responders will be able to view
the train’s equipment and ask questions in a non-formal,
passenger-free environment.
“Those in attendance will learn about everything from how to shut
down the train’s engine to evacuating passengers through windows”,
says Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region Council of
Governments. “This training is especially useful when you consider
that a lot more people have been added now that we just started Rail
Runner service to the City of Belen.”
