UNM Hospital
adds employee shuttle service to connect with Rail Runner
Big response spurs hospital to take lead in helping
employees with transit connection
(07-13-06) UNM Hospital is among the first businesses to provide
a free shuttle service for employees who would like to use the
New Mexico Rail Runner Express as part of their daily commute to
and from work.
“We did an employee survey and got an overwhelming response for
this service”, says UNM Hospitals Transportation Manager, Janey
Flores. “Limited parking is just one of a number of reasons why
we want to encourage our employees to use the Rail Runner to get
to work. It’s a great service and very reliable, so we look
forward to having it help our employees with transportation
costs and reducing travel-induced stress.”
The shuttle, which is being funded completely by the hospital,
is designed to bring hospital employees from the Downtown
Albuquerque Rail Runner station directly to the facility. The
Hospital shuttle will drop off and pickup in front of the main
hospital only. The Mid-Region Council of Governments, which is
implementing the Rail Runner project for the state, worked with
UNMH to coordinate the free service.
“We really applaud UNM Hospital for having the vision to do
this”, says Lawrence Rael, Executive Director for the Mid-Region
Council of Governments. “Their employees will really benefit
from the hospital’s foresight. We hope other businesses will
take note of what UNM Hospital is doing, and follow their lead.”
