Station Area
Development

Situated at the southern tip of Albuquerque,
and serving as a gateway to the growing South Valley, the
Bernalillo County/International Sunport Rail station offers
an especially unique opportunity for mixed-use development
in an underutilized area of mostly vacant land. The County’s
vision for the station area incorporates dense residential,
public and commercial space to serve commuters and nearby
residents, and new employment opportunities, such as
research, office and light manufacturing. The plan would
create a transit-oriented “town center” along this busy
corridor, serving not only local residents, but commuters
and visitors with transit connections to the Sunport.

| The symbol representing this station has a meaning that is actually two-fold. The corn reflects the South Valley's rich agricultural heritage, reminding riders of the days when crops were traded at market. Even today, agriculture remains a viable economic influence in the area. The sun reflected in the icon represents the station’s strong connection to the Albuquerque Sunport – New Mexico’s main gateway for travel in and out of the Land of Enchantment. |
