Rail Runner Phase II

The Details

The construction of Phase II of the New Mexico Rail Runner Express from Bernalillo to Santa Fe is underway and is expected to be complete by December 2008.

The Extended Route

The train will run on existing BNSF tracks located alongside I-25 from Bernalillo to La Bajada.  Just south of La Bajada new track is being built east of  I-25 near Waldo, to north of the La Bajada Rest Area.  From there it will go through a "tunnel" underneath I-25 to the median between northbound and southbound traffic.  The train will travel in the median, past Richards Avenue then cross under the southbound lanes of I-25 before St. Francis Drive.  From there it will tie into the Santa Fe Southern Railroad.
