Location: Reinken Avenue and Wisconsin Street
(100 Rail Runner Dr. in Belen)
Open!
The Belen Rail Runner station is located in the heart of Downtown near the site of the old Harvey House - an area that brings passenger rail service full circle to where it all started back in 1901. The station also serves nearby Rio Communities, Jarales, and Tomé.
Belen Station Goes Green
The New
Mexico Rail Runner Express uses solar energy — a clean and
renewable energy source — to provide the electricity
needed for the day to day operations of the commuter rail
system. The photovoltaic system at the Belen station provides approximately
85 percent of the electricity needed to power the station's
lights, communications system, and other electrical uses.
This renewable energy replaces the need for the current
fossil fuels used for the generation of electricity and
reduces greenhouse gases.

Station Area
Development
FastForward Realty, a Belen-based
real estate brokerage and development firm, plans to build
a mixed use, transit-oriented development on two acres of
land located alongside the Rail Runner tracks and depot.
The company plans to build an estimated 40 attached
condominium, townhouse and apartment units ranging in size
from 800 to 1,800 square feet, along with about 40,000
square feet of space for a
restaurant, sports bar, fitness center and a convenience
store. The City of Belen, the
NMDOT and the MRCOG have collaborated on pedestrian
improvements, including a pedestrian overpass, to connect
the Rail Runner station to Downtown Belen. This is now
open.

| The icon for this station is a reminder of how important the old Harvey House was to Belen back at the turn of the last century. At 15, an Englishman named Fred Harvey came to America and spent most of his life building clean elegant restaurants that served good food to the traveling public throughout the Southwest. Harvey Houses also brought civilization, community, and industry to the Wild West. Belen’s Harvey House, built in 1901, now contains a museum displaying old railroad items, as well as lamps, dishes, and menus from the Harvey House heydays. |
